We are proud to say we have 12 offerings from the Silva family this year. What we love about this family is that they are deep rooted in the tradition of quality coffee, and are always experimenting, evolving, and raising the bar. The Noruega farm was the start of it all. Rafael’s grandparents met while going to school in San Francisco in the early 1930’s. His Grandmother was from El Salvador, his Grandfather was from Norway. They fell in love, got married, and moved back to El Salvador and established residence when they purchased a coffee farm. They renamed it Noruega (Norway in English) in honor of Rafael’s Grandfathers roots. They had one child, Thelma who went on to have a family of her own. She had 5 children, one of which was Rafael Sr.

Carmen + Rafael also met in San Francisco, and continue to work the farms and mills together with their three children. Their oldest child, Rafael Jr. moved back home a few years ago to learn the family business and work closer with his father. The next generation of Silvas are taking growing and processing to the next level with each harvest. Rafael jr. is really interested in experimental processes and planting new varietals that are rare in EL Salvador. That combined with years of quality experience from his parents will continue to bring more exciting offerings from this already amazing producing family.

Tasting Notes: The Noruega is a traditional bourbon with milk chocolate sweetness, a very luscious and round body and super juicy with citrus acidity.

Orders received before 12a Thursday will be roasted and fulfilled that day. All orders received after Thursday will be fulfilled the following week. Each bag is 12 ounces.
